AWhat moves SHBG

8 of 27 studied

In human studies, 1 of the 27 supplements and practices researched so far lowered SHBG and 4 raised it. 3 showed no change. 19 were never studied for it.

Moves it5

Human studies found a change. The grade reflects the studies behind it, from A (strongest) to D.

BerberineRaisesGrade B
MagnesiumRaisesGrade B

Magnesium raises SHBG.

NACLowersGrade C

NAC lowers SHBG.

Studied, no change3

Studies looked and found no meaningful change. That is a result, not missing data.

Not studied19

No usable human study has measured SHBG with these. A gap is not a negative result: nobody has looked.

BThe molecule

Sex hormone-binding globulin with dihydrotestosterone

SHBG carries much of the testosterone in blood. This structure holds dihydrotestosterone, which binds the same pocket.

Cut-away view: outer atoms shrunk so the highlight shows

Coral: dihydrotestosterone, a testosterone metabolite, in its binding pocket. Amber: calcium.

Structure: PDB 1D2S · X-ray, 1.55 Å · Grishkovskaya et al., EMBO J 2000. Rendered from atomic coordinates in Blender; 2,696 atoms, about 7.7 nm across. Highlight source.

Why trials measure it. Trials report it to explain changes in free versus total sex hormones.

About this marker: SHBG Blood Test (MedlinePlus, U.S. National Library of Medicine).

Evidence states come from published human studies found in PubMed and OpenAlex and read by a model pipeline. "Not studied" means no usable human study was found for this marker, which is a gap, not a negative result. Every result links its studies so you can check it.
